Airway Orthodontics
Airway Orthodontics
We guide jaw and airway development early to support a lifetime of healthy breathing and growth.

Guide Growth Early. Breathe Well for Life.
Airway orthodontics is about more than straight teeth. At Root Cause Dental Group, we guide jaw and airway development in children at the ages when it matters most, supporting healthy breathing, better sleep, and proper facial growth. When airflow is strained early in life, the effects can follow a child for years, making early intervention one of the most impactful things a parent can do.
Whether your child snores, breathes through their mouth, or has been told their jaw is too narrow, our team takes a thorough look at how growth, breathing, and development all connect. Rather than waiting for problems to worsen, we work proactively to create the space a child needs to breathe and thrive. If you are looking for airway orthodontics or early orthodontic treatment in London, Ontario, we are here to help your child grow well from the start.
Our Approach, In Plain Language
Why we guide growth this way
Fix the foundation first, so the house can be built up correctly. Rather than removing teeth to make them fit, we make the room bigger so every tooth, and the tongue, has space to work the way it was meant to.
We make room, not remove teeth
We don’t take teeth out so the rest can fit. Instead, we enlarge the upper jaw to create room for all of the teeth to come in, building on a stable foundation rather than working around a crowded one.
More room for the tongue
When there is more space, the tongue can rest and function properly and help keep the airway open. Enlarging the upper jaw also lets the lower jaw settle into its natural position, helping prevent future TMJ dysfunction, snoring, and sleep apnea.
A larger, healthier airway
With proper development comes a larger airway, more airflow and better oxygenation. When children breathe better, they function better and are healthier, with less risk of future snoring and sleep apnea.
Myofunctional Therapy
Physio for the tongue, lips & cheeks
AMCOP and myofunctional therapy retrain the tongue, cheeks, and lips so they function properly. Think of it like physiotherapy for the muscles of the mouth, we strengthen them so they work the way they were designed to, putting less stress on the surrounding muscles.
By correcting swallowing and breathing patterns, we support proper development of the face, jaw, and muscles, allowing for a balanced profile and optimal growth patterns as your child grows.

Why Expansion Is So Important for Development
A narrow upper jaw is about far more than crowded teeth. It can affect breathing, sleep, the TMJ, and facial development, which is why early expansion is one of the most powerful tools in airway orthodontics.
